Sugars

In many cases such as that of brewing certain types of Belgian ales, many homebrewers will add sugar to their wort in order to provide more sugars to be fermented in the fermentation process.

More sugars means more alcohol, but does affect the flavor so it would be a good idea to use sugars such as rock “candy” sugar according to the style guidelines in most cases.

Also, priming sugars are used in some of the bottling/racking processes in order to boost carbon dioxide production in the bottles.
